Triple Threat: Stay Protected from Influenza, Corona, and RSV with Vaccinations and Prevention

This fall, infectious diseases pose a triple threat, as 3 viruses spread widely, namely influenza, corona, and respiratory syncytial virus, so it is important to obtain all vaccinations before the disease season for prevention, according to the axios website.

“This year’s disease season starts early,” said Michele Barron, medical director of infection prevention and control at the University of California. “That’s why we encourage everyone, especially children, parents and grandparents, to get their vaccinations early.”

There are 3 vaccinations that must be obtained in this season, namely:

1) Influenza vaccine: Widespread circulation is expected in October and peaks in November, at least a month earlier than usual.

The CDC recommends everyone older than six months of age get vaccinated, and reports indicate that those vaccinated were 40-70% less likely to be hospitalized or develop complications.

2) Respiratory syncytial virus vaccine: The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved new vaccines for prevention of syncytial virus targeting the elderly and other immunocompromised people, as well as those 8 to 19 months of age.

3) The updated Corona vaccine: The vaccine will be launched in the United States soon. Federal officials expect updated coronavirus vaccines to become available to all Americans in mid-September.

The new doses target the XBB.1.5 Omicron variant, the dominant summer strain, but experts say it will still protect ” once morest the more serious outcomes” of the newer variants.

Besides vaccinations, stay home if you are sick and wash your hands frequently.
