In the last few hours WWE introduced a new episode of Friday Night SmackDown from the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The highlight of the night saw Triple H revealing the new design of the Undisputed Universal Championship of the company, which Roman Reigns has occupied for more than 1000 days.

This fact marked a turning point in the titular chronology within WWE. Not only does it establish as permanent the union between the WWE and Universal Championships that took place at WrestleMania 38, but it was also pointed out to the latter as the lineage that the belt will follow from now on. Roman Reigns will continue his reign of more than 1007 days which started in Payback 2020.

With this news, everything indicates that WWE has chosen to give him a closing to a World Championship with 60 years of history. One of the oldest titles in professional wrestling would have seen its closure on the night of June 2, with Roman Reigns being its last holder for 425 days. As we mentioned above, The Tribal Chief defeated Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania to unify his Universal Championship with WWE’s. Originally, both titles were still considered as separate awardsand even the fighter came to defend them in this way in his first days as a double champion.

The WWE Championship was created in 1963 and delivered to Buddy Rogers following the separation between the NWA and the, then, WWWF. The belt has survived multiple unifications in his more than 146 recognized reigns by the company. In 2001, the title was obtained by Chris Jericho along with the WCW Championship. In 2013, Randy Orton won it along with the World Heavyweight Championship in a unification match.
