On the night of Saturday June 11, three people were stabbed to death in a house in Zavelstraat, in Kessel-Lo: a 54-year-old woman, who lived in the accommodation, her 23-year-old son, as well as a friend of family, 47 years old. One of the victims was able to notify the emergency services around 3:00 a.m. but, once the police arrived on the scene, the agents discovered three lifeless bodies, stabbed with stab wounds. Neighbors had heard barking and knocking around the time the call to police was made.
Two days following the events, on June 13, two searches were carried out in the Louvain region and two people were arrested for questioning, in order to find out if they were possibly involved in the events. They were released the same day and were not charged.
At the beginning of August, a search was carried out in another house in Zavelstraat and the occupant of the premises, a 23-year-old man, was taken for a hearing. A search had also been made at the parents of this man, finally released following hearing.
The individual was once more apprehended last Thursday.
“A number of elements emerging from the in-depth investigation carried out by the federal judicial police indicate the suspect’s involvement in the triple assassination,” the prosecutor’s office said. “He was arrested on Thursday and an additional search was carried out at his home.”
The man denies any involvement in the facts but the investigating judge has decided to place him under an arrest warrant for murder.
The individual is an acquaintance of the son. He was due to appear in court on Tuesday. However, at the request of the defence, the case was adjourned to Tuesday, September 27.
