Trinamool Congress Gains Ground in West Bengal Local Elections: Latest Updates

Kolkata | The Trinamool Congress, the ruling party in the state, is gaining ground in the local elections in West Bengal. The momentum of Trinamool has continued since the counting of votes started at 8 am. Out of the 2,582 gram panchayats where the results came, the Trinamool made progress in 2,117. BJP could advance in only 184 panchayats. The Left-Congress alliance is leading in 154 panchayats.

Out of 63,229 gram panchayat seats, Trinamool candidates won 18,590 seats. Leading in 4,608 seats. BJP won 4,479 seats. 1,277 is progressing. The Left-Congress alliance won 2,574 seats. Counting of votes for Panchayat Samiti was held only in some districts. Counting of votes for Zilla Parishad has not started.

Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari approached the High Court seeking a CBI probe into the violence related to the polls. The plea will be heard today.
