Tribute to Sébastien Courtoy at the trial of March 22: “A black toga will no longer rise, and that can only grieve us”

The trial has been suspended until Thursday, the time for the defense of Smaïl Farisi to reorganize following the sudden death of Sébastien Courtoy. The President paid a vibrant tribute to the legal profession.

Uresumed in a gloomy atmosphere. The Assize Court responsible for trying the defendants of the terrorist attacks of March 22, 2016 left on February 16. It was late, especially following the long session of questions to the investigators from the defense of Smaïl Farisi, a session that looked like a pleading before time for lawyer Sébastien Courtoy. The court found itself on Monday, without the famous criminal lawyer. Died last Monday at only 48 years of heart attack.

President Laurence Massart did not wish to act as if nothing had happened. After a short meeting before the hearing, in the presence of all the parties and the president of the bar, she spoke to the jury and all the defendants (except Smaïl Farisi, probably too touched by the loss of his main lawyer).
