The two-day tribute of the International Festival to the two rebetes of Patras Babi Gole and Kostas Tsiata, ends at 9.30 pm on Saturday 20 July at the Old Slaughterhouses with the concert for Babi Gole.
The tribute features a six-member band made up of Giorgos Griziotis – three-string bouzouki, vocals, Spyros Delegos – guitar, vocals, Andreas Stamatopoulos – accordion, vocals, Dimitris Sarris – baglama, vocals, Andriana Tsagaris – vocals, Senich Undeger – violin.
Babis Goles, born in Tabachana, Patras, is one of the most recognizable musical personalities of the revival of rebetiko song during the post-political period. With numerous performances from the mid-1960s and a series of records from 1982 onwards, Goles marked a new era for rebetiko, nurturing generations of musicians in the genre and attracting the general public to the musical world of the gramophone.
The musical editing belongs to Spyros Delegos and Giorgos Griziotis.
The tribute is a sign of honor from the municipality of Patras and the International Festival to the two rebetes for their contribution to the singing and cultural events of the region.
