Cologne (SID) – The three-time Ironman world champion Jan Frodeno (40) is on the home stretch of his triathlon career unlucky. After a fall during bike training, he had to cancel his next World Championship start. In a video on Instagram, Frodeno explained that he would not be participating in the Ironman in Hawaii on October 8th. He had already missed the title fights in May in St. George/Utah after a partial rupture of the Achilles tendon.
After an abrasion, Frodeno’s hip became inflamed, on Thursday he was operated on, further operations are to follow. “That ends my Kona dreams for 2022,” said Frodeno, who does not want to say goodbye despite the injury. He’s still passionate about the sport, but he doesn’t want to be “the next old man who just never ends.” Therefore, 2023 – after the World Cup in Hawaii – should finally be over, announced Frodeno.
