Trial for Báez Sosa: firefighters who assisted him and another victim of rugby players declare

On the morning of this Friday, January 13, the tenth day of hearings of the trial for the crime of Fernando Baez Sosawhich takes place in the Oral Criminal Court No. 1 of Dolores.

The last statements of the second week of the judicial process will be those of two volunteer firefighters who assisted the victim following the savage beating of the rugby players at the exit of the Le Brique bowling alley, in the early morning of January 18, 2020, in Villa Gesell. It was agreed that they would give a statement in the first week of the trial, but they will only be able to appear today. It is presumed that the testimony of both is very valuable since they were the ones who helped the 18-year-old boy until the ambulance took him to the hospital.

Who would also testify today would be Pablo Gaston Zapataa young man who lives in Zárate and who denounced having been attacked by Maxim Thomsen, Enzo Comelli, Matias Benicelli, Ayrton Violaz, Blas Cinalli, Luciano, Lucas y Cyrus Pertossi months before the murder of Báez Sosa. He also maintains that Lucas Pertossi stole his motorcycle. However, the presence of the young man is not confirmed one hundred percent and he might provide an investigative statement today.

After the death of the law student, Zapata declared in various media how the rugby players had attacked him. The dynamics of the fights – one dated December 10 and the other dated December 15, 2019 – was similar to that of Villa Gesell a month later.

In an interview for Canal 9 said: “The first time they attacked us with stones among twelve. They made that fence that they make for you so that no one escapes. I thought they were killing me. To this day I feel stitches in my head.”

His words match those of francis santororower’s friend Paul Venturawhen he testified at the trial. The young man explained what the group’s modus operandi was like in Zárate: “In a preview, one of them provoked one of my friends. The way they provoke you or seek your reaction is by pushing, on purpose. A touch on the head or a spilled glass. They put you to the test to see your reaction. You stayed quiet and walked away or reacted badly.”

Regarding Lucas Pertossi, he explained: “He started a fight inside that ended outside with an injured boy. It was not human to see what was happening. He is the one who always tests you with pushes, with blows, with whatever.”

Burlando asked Santoro if the rugby player was very aggressive, to which he replied: “Yes, totally. To give you an idea: the boy finished hospitalized with hip fracture”. Lastly, he consulted: What concept do you have of the defendants?” “They are people whose fun was to go out looking for a fight at night: they had fun fighting”, concluded the witness.

The keys of the tenth day

The tenth day of the trial for the crime of Fernando Báez Sosa, this Friday, January 13, will have the peculiarity that the defense of the eight rugby playerswhich up to now behaved expectantly, might launch a strategy in the future to turn around the process, in order to mitigate the possible penalties received by the aggressors of the murdered youth.

Crime of Fernando Báez Sosa: strong fight for the pact of silence between two of the rugby players

It is that for now nobody knows if Hugo Tomei will play any additional card because at the beginning of the trial, unlike the lawsuit that insisted that he will go for the request for life imprisonment for the eight defendants, did not try any other alternative to that of the aggravated homicide who upholds the accusation.

Tomei insisted, as he did during the Preparatory Criminal Investigation (IPP) in pointing out that there were irregularities in the judicial process, due to the form and legal qualification that they attributed to the rugbiers. But as soon as these two annulments were raised, Court 1 of Dolores rejected them, since they had been a carbon copy of what was questioned and had already been dismissed.
