seismic country

Venezuela is a seismic country because it is located on the South American and Caribbean tectonic plates, which causes constant telluric movements.

“Earthquakes in Venezuela are the product of contact between the Caribbean and South American tectonic plates. The movement of the Caribbean plate to the east with respect to the South American plate produces significant seismic activity », Funvisis explains on his website.

Throughout the national territory, in the northern coastal area, there are three geological faults: the Pilar (east), San Sebastián (Aragua state) and Boconó (Trujillo state).
