Residents of Quebec were shocked on Friday to see that trees in good condition had been cut during their absence.
“When I came back, the tree was lying on the ground in my yard. There was no note. There was also the neighbour’s tree which was lying down,” says Marc Grenier, a resident of Quebec.
Leaving his car, Mr. Grenier is intercepted by a lady. She tells him that there is a van, regarding 500 meters away, with two guys with a chainsaw.
“I intercepted them. They were cutting down a tree at someone else’s house. They told me that it was a contract from the City to cut down trees belonging to the City,” he explains.
The City of Quebec was quickly contacted. The technician responsible for the file would even have moved, according to Marc Grenier. The latter indicates that the lady did not seem to understand why the trees had been cut down.
“It seems to have been a misunderstanding with the directives given by the City or that the contractor had misunderstood”, details the citizen.
The City of Quebec would have apologized following the incident and would have even mentioned that the cut trees would eventually be replaced.
For the moment, the number of felled trees is not known.
The City declined to comment on the matter on Saturday.
