Linda said that iodine is a necessary nutrient for patients with hypothyroidism, because it stimulates the production of thyroxine, a hormone responsible for improving metabolism, maintaining body energy and preventing the growth of cancer cells.

The nutritionist explained that a glass of milk provides the body with more than 50% of the recommended daily dose of iodine, appealing to patients with hypothyroidism to consume it daily.

She noted the availability of iodine in foods and drinks other than dairy products, especially milk, such as fish, egg yolks, orange and lemon juice.

Linda added that there is another nutrient that is no less important than iodine. Patients with hypothyroidism should pay attention to eating foods rich in it, which is selenium, because it helps them produce their hormones in a balanced manner.

She emphasized that seafood, such as tuna and sardines, are among the best natural sources of selenium, in addition to eggs, particularly the yolks, and whole grains.
