The legendary motocross star-turned-rally driver is joining an impressive roster of renowned competitors, including the illustrious seven-time Supercars champion Jamie Whincup and former Formula 1 luminaries Sebastian Vettel and Mick Schumacher. Rallying legends such as Sebastien Loeb and Hayden Paddon are also part of the elite lineup, amplifying the excitement surrounding this prestigious event.
Pastrana’s illustrious career is marked not only by his celebrated feats on two wheels and his six American rallying championships but also by his crowning achievement at the World Powerboat Championship in 2022. His remarkable versatility continues to set him apart from his peers in the motorsports realm.
During the 2009 Nations Cup, Pastrana made a notable semi-finals appearance alongside Tanner Foust, where they faced off against a formidable German team that included both Sebastian Vettel and the iconic Michael Schumacher, the father of Mick Schumacher.
In expressing his enthusiasm for this year’s ROC Sydney, Pastrana stated, “When [ROC co-founder] Fredrik [Johnsson] contacted me and told me that the Race of Champions was headed to Sydney, that just felt right – one of my favourite events in one of my favourite countries.”
Delighted by the event’s concept, he added, “The ROC is a great concept and I think the Australian fans will love it.” He further emphasized his determination to seize the moment: “I have some unfinished business in ROC and I would love nothing more than to win my first Champion of Champions title and help Team USA win the ROC Nations Cup in Australia, which is almost like a second home to me.”
With a team partner nearly confirmed, Pastrana expressed optimism, stating, “I would like to think we will have a serious shot at finally winning the Nations Cup for Team USA after coming close several times.”
Johnsson warmly welcomed Pastrana to what is shaping up to be an exhilarating ROC lineup. “Travis Pastrana is one of the greatest characters and strongest competitors in world motorsports,” Johnsson noted.
Pastrana’s tenacity and competitive spirit truly set him apart. “Even in a group with so many exceptional drivers that compete in ROC, Travis truly stands out with his incredible spirit never giving up no matter what,” Johnsson remarked.
“His career is just amazing and has resulted in a list of successes on two and four wheels, in the air and, more recently, on water that is unmatched in the world.”
Johnsson highlighted Pastrana’s strong bond with Australian fans, noting, “He is always a crowd favourite at the Race of Champions events and will arrive in Sydney as focused and as competitive as ever as he chases his first Champion of Champions title and Team USA’s first ROC Nations Cup title since 2002.”
“We are also excited at the prospect of confirming his teammate in the coming weeks and look forward to adding another name to our impressive list of competitors for the Australian fans to see in action.”
