Many heart patients believe that they cannot travel because of their illness. How true is this belief?
The Heart Center in the German city of Duisburg confirmed the ability of heart patients to travel in principle, provided that their health condition stabilizes during the last 4 weeks before travel. Therefore, medical examinations should be carried out 4 to 6 weeks beforehand.
The center added that it should also be taken into account that many heart medications make the skin sensitive to the sun, so the skin should be protected by applying a sunscreen with a protection factor (SPF) of at least 30.
Fluids should be drunk adequately, given that many heart medications have a diuretic effect, which raises the risk of dehydration, especially in the event of more fluid loss due to extreme heat and the so-called “traveler’s diarrhea”, which occurs due to eating contaminated food and drinks.
