However, there are several ways to review the color of your money if a strike affects your flights.
The president of volenretard.ca, Jacob Charbonneau, suggests first checking your flights several times before leaving.
“If there is a flight disruption caused by the strike, the carrier has 48 hours to find alternatives for travelers or travelers can request refunds,” it specifies.
Here are four remedies to help you get your money back.
Montreal Convention
The Montreal Convention has existed since 1999 and aims to protect passengers traveling on international flights.
“It allows you to seek compensation if you incur costs due to the disruption of your flights. If you have to repurchase tickets, lose days of work or activities like a cruise, you can claim these expenses from the carrier,” he says.
Travel agency compensation fund
The Travel Agents’ Clients Compensation Fund might reimburse services such as accommodation, transportation and certain activities.
“In Quebec, we are lucky because if you go through a travel agency, you can obtain an amount from the compensation fund,” he says.
European Convention
Several remedies are possible in the European convention to receive compensation if your flight is late or canceled.
“European regulations provide for compensation for everything related to strikes,” he emphasizes.
Travel insurance
There are also several travel insurance policies that can reimburse you if you suffer the repercussions of a strike.
“To be well protected before leaving, you can take out travel insurance. [Dans certains cas] we are covered with our credit card,” he says.
