Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of Transport, met with Engineer Jassim bin Saif Al-Sulaiti, Qatari Minister of Communications, to discuss cooperation in various fields of transport, on the sidelines of the two ministers’ participation in the activities of the opening session of the Middle East Railway Exhibition and Conference 2023 in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister of Transport stressed the importance of joint cooperation between the two sides in the various fields of transport, especially in the maritime transport sector, which was confirmed by the Qatari Minister of Transport, pointing to the interest that the Qatari government attaches to developing sea ports such as Hamad Port according to the latest international systems with the establishment of a company to manage and operate. ports.
The talks touched on the latest developments related to the memorandum of understanding signed between the Egyptian Ministry of Transport and MAHA Capital, the investment arm of the Qatar Investment Authority, and related to setting the general framework for the form of joint cooperation and starting the necessary feasibility studies in joint projects in ports.
The talks dealt with supporting the development of economic and trade relations between the two brotherly countries in the field of ports and specialized terminals, especially how the Qatari side can participate in the development of the current container terminals in Egyptian ports by pumping direct investments to develop and raise the efficiency of the superstructure and operating equipment and apply the latest technology systems in management and operation.
During the meeting, the Minister of Transport stressed that the transport sector in Egypt is witnessing a big boom and that there are promising investment opportunities in this field, such as establishing new marine stations for general goods, establishing logistical centers and dry ports and linking them to railway lines to contribute to increasing trade and circulation in Egyptian ports to achieve the goal. The largest, which is transforming Egypt into a global center for trade and logistics, in implementation of the directives of the political leadership.
At the end of the meeting, a request from a Qatari company working in the field of urban transport was discussed regarding the management and operation of the BRT bus project, which will run on the ring road around Greater Cairo, which is one of the most important green, sustainable, environmentally friendly mass transit projects being implemented in Egypt.
