Transparent smart screens…the latest innovations from TV manufacturers

Home televisions with large flat screens may soon be retired, as the two giant South Korean electronics companies, “Samsung” and “LG,” are betting on transparent, simple, and smart screens that they will launch in the coming months.

An LG executive asked, on Monday, during a press presentation of the Signature OLED T device scheduled to be released later this year: “What if you had a screen that would save you space?”

He said: “Welcome to a world that goes beyond the ideal screen,” on the eve of the official launch yesterday, Tuesday, of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in the western United States.

The company points out that the new screen, which was introduced to great fanfare, “becomes practically invisible when turned off” and can therefore blend perfectly with the decor of the room it is in.

This TV looks like a transparent rectangular box, and once turned on, it provides viewing of TV programs in high definition.

But it is also possible, by playing with transparency, to display realistic surrounding images, such as flames, swimming fish, etc., to make the device a decorative piece in its own right.

Transparent TV technology is not entirely new, but companies are making efforts to convince consumers due to their high selling prices.

For its part, Samsung introduced its own screen, which is also transparent like glass, but equipped with light-emitting diodes (LED) to obtain high-definition images.

“Transparent light-emitting diodes are poised to redefine visual experiences, making it virtually impossible to distinguish the line between content and reality,” Samsung said in a statement.
