LG Display unveils new technology at CES
57-inch dashboard for autonomous driver’s seat
LG Display introduced an autonomous driving concept car with a ‘slidable organic light emitting diode (OLED)’ that is hidden when the screen is dry and then unfolds when in use.
LG Display unveiled various new technologies by setting up a dedicated booth for the first time in the West Hall, the mobility technology exhibition hall of CES 2023, the world’s largest information technology (IT) and home appliance exhibition.
An 18-inch sliderable OLED was applied to the interior design of the future self-driving car unveiled by LG Display. This is the first public display in the display industry. The screen is usually hidden in a rolled up state on the ceiling of the rear seat, but when used for watching movies, watching news, or video conferencing, the screen expands downward. The window is equipped with a 55-inch transparent OLED, so it is possible to view real-time news, weather, advertisements, etc. while viewing the scenery outside the window. A 57-inch super-large liquid crystal display (LCD) was applied to the dashboard, where the steering wheel disappeared due to the introduction of autonomous driving.
LG Display also introduced LTPS LCD, a new technology that is advantageous in realizing high resolution while making it larger than existing LCDs. The industry’s largest 57-inch LCD for vehicles can cover the entire dashboard from the driver’s seat to the front passenger’s seat.
