An official from the Presidential Transition Committee announced on the 7th that “On the day the new government is inaugurated on May 10, President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol will begin his office (at the Yongsan Oval Office) without a security gap.” It was a dismissal of media reports that it would be impossible for President-elect Yoon to start office in Yongsan in time for his inauguration.

A representative of the transition committee met with reporters at the transition committee’s office in Toongui-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul on the same day and said, “Before (May) 10, we have been cooperating well and are doing our best.”

The official said, “The core essence of the relocation of the Oval Office is Δ whether the so-called bunker and crisis management center will be complete without a security vacuum, or Δ whether the new president will start working at the relocated Ministry of National Defense building,” said the official on May 10. said it was possible

The official explained, “Until the new president starts taking office on the 10th, the work of connecting the military tactical control system called the C4I system, the disaster and disaster connection system, and its software will be complete.” He also said, “Our (supervisor) consistent position is that even if we take the start of the presidency as a standard, we can achieve it within 10 days.”

However, the official said, “If we take the closing of the door to the last person in the secretariat as the standard for moving in, that is correct. (In this case), we can move on to June.

Regarding the preparation of Plan B and C if it is difficult to complete the office relocation on May 10, he said, “There is a real problem that the Ministry of Defense building cannot move from the 1st floor to the 10th floor at once. Naturally, (the transfer) will be done partially and in stages.”

However, he said, “In the process of going sequentially, there is a question regarding whether (the new president) will not be able to attend his office if the office of the elected president is not completed, and we are fully preparing to prevent that. As a result, the new president will begin his office on the 10th,” he said once more. However, he added, “I can’t tell you in detail on which floor and how (due to security issues).”

Earlier, the government held an ad hoc cabinet meeting on the 6th and voted for 36 billion won in reserve funds for the relocation of the presidential office to Yongsan, which is being promoted by President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol. It is known that this does not include the cost of remodeling the 1st to 4th floors of the current Ministry of National Defense building, where the ROK-US Combined Command Post training department is located, and the cost of moving the bodyguard.

Therefore, considering the ROK-US Combined Command Post training schedule scheduled for the end of April, the relocation of the departments on the 1st to 4th floors, where the presidential office, press room, and secretariat will be prepared, is delayed. It was speculated that this might be possible. With the exception of the first and fourth floors, it is expected that the work will begin before the 5th and 10th floors, where the public-private joint committee and other staff offices will be located.
