The Venetian Onco-gynecological Institute (InOVe) is getting a makeover. Created by Doctor Valentin in May 2023, the initiative currently welcomes 100 breast cancer patients at the Océane clinic in Vannes. This new treatment pathway is completely free.
“Our goal is to guide women according to their needs, whether sporting, psychological or dietary,” explains Sylvie Hillion Audran, general practitioner. To carry out this mission, five caregivers (doctor, nurse, dietician, psychologist and sexologist), and a sports coach are predisposed. However, this program is “an additional care offer because we are in support, not in pure care” adds the general practitioner. A vision supported by Marina Tempier, the nurse coordinator, “this journey is above all a moment of exchange and listening”.
“the journey helps one accept the illness”
The program also offers a listening ear. “They have a dedicated number to contact us in case of questions” informs Marina Tempier. Support which is greatly appreciated, “you were there to help me, the course helps to accept the illness” confides to the caregivers, Sylvie, 58 years old, beneficiary of the course. She adds, “it’s true that it’s quite simple to call the route and it’s reassuring to know that there is someone to answer our questions.”
Intimacy and sexuality are not forgotten
Since September, Barbara Philip, psychologist and sexologist, has been involved in the InOVe treatment process. His role ? Being able to discuss issues related to intimacy and sexuality. “The couple also suffers the consequences of the illness because they support everything,” analyzes the therapist. “For some, it’s a bit of a double whammy,” adds Alexandra Marto, psychologist on the course. The usefulness of these “sex meetings” is established, “I was able to talk regarding things that I would never have been able to talk regarding with anyone else and that I needed” attests Sylvie, suffering from breast cancer.
“The InOVe cluster is a strength”
The care pathway is not only carried out when the illness is announced, but also during and following. “It’s at the end that we need the most support and, for that, the InOVe center is a strength,” says Raphaëlle, 46, who is preparing to undergo her last chemotherapy on October 20 . This help thus acts as an engine of resilience, “we are well surrounded so, when we have this will, it is already part of the journey that is made. Afterwards, it’s the treatments that will do the rest…” concludes Sylvie, with hope and lucidity.
