Speaking to MEGA, Mr. Skylakakis pointed out that in the fall the demand for electricity drops and thus it is expected that there will be a de-escalation of the wholesale price in September for businesses.
Regarding the subsidies, the Minister of Environment and Energy made it clear that they do not concern businesses and that if the rise in wholesale electricity prices continues, then it means that there is a regional crisis, and if it lasts more than 3 months, European intervention will be possible.
“Last year we gave about 25 million per month in the last months, 25-40 depending on the month, a total of over 150 million for 2023. In 2024 we will go to around 45 million, which is also the income we got,” said minister regarding subsidy amounts.
At the same time, Mr. Skylakakis emphasized that there should be European intervention if the issue of Ukraine is permanent, so that electricity prices fall internationally.
Electricity bills: PPC opened the dance of reductions in tariffs
Up to 43% are the reductions announced by the suppliers for electricity tariffs for September compared to the previous month, while there are also increases, but they do not exceed 8%. The… dance of reductions was opened once again by PPC, which, as the largest player in the field, “sets” the tone, while today the announcements from the Ministry of Energy are expected for the subsidy of household tariffs in September, which is expected to be close to 1 minute per kilowatt hour.
The prices
According to the data posted on the website of the Energy Regulatory Authority, prices range from 15.833 to 19.95 cents per kilowatt hour, while of the 16 products available on the market, six are down compared to August (among them the PPC tariff up to 500 kilowatt hours per month), six remained stable and four increased.
As market sources point out, the price variation reflects the relative de-escalation of the electricity exchange price in August to 129.83 per megawatt hour from 135.54 in July.
In particular, PPC’s “green” tariff for consumption up to 500 kilowatt-hours is 15.94 cents per kilowatt-hour, compared to 16.39 cents which was the price in August, i.e. 2.8% lower. The price for consumption over 500 kilowatt hours is 17.14 cents (up from 16.95). The charge for PPC’s night tariff is also lower, at 12.84 cents from 14.934 in August.
Subsidies
It should be noted that PPC’s tariff does not include the subsidies that the government will provide, which will push down the electricity tariff. We remind you that PPC in August offered the “green” tariff at 16.3 cents per kilowatt hour, which with the subsidies granted by the Ministry of the Interior dropped to 14.7 cents. Last month, PPC provided a 53% discount on the electricity bill.
Also, the company proceeded with its announcement to change one of the variables that affect the equation of the “green” tariff. In particular, the upper limit Lu of the fluctuation mechanism is reset to 0.125 euro/kWh.
Other providers
It is noted that Metlen group’s Protergia, which holds the second largest share in the retail electricity market after PPC, announced that it will keep its tariffs stable in September, with the “green” tariff being set at 15.99 cents. The Iron company, a member of the GEK TERNA group, also maintained unchanged prices, with Basic Home at 15.87 cents per kilowatt hour.
