Ashley Benson at AD Open Door: We show how the actress transforms an aging LA property into a playful, colorful and open home.
When Ashley Benson first saw her future home in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles, she was skeptical. “It was really old and it took a lot of imagination to see the potential,” the Pretty Little Liars actress remembers. The house was built in 1930 by architect Arthur Kelly and was full of winding rooms and staircases. But Benson couldn’t help but be drawn to the Spanish-style home. “From the outside it felt like I was in Barcelona or somewhere in Europe,” she enthuses. And so she bought the house in 2020 and brought in the interior designer Nicole Gordon and the architect John Farrace for the renovation. The challenges were, on the one hand, the outdated facade, but also an angled spatial structure. Walls had to be torn down to create an open feeling of space and each room was given a personal touch, inspired by Benson’s love of travel. “I wanted to make every room – regardless of size – a unique experience,” she explains. The result: a bar with a Parisian flair, a pool area that exudes a Mexican atmosphere and a kitchen in the style of Nancy Meyers films. But her playful side wasn’t neglected either, with a washroom decorated with astronaut wallpaper and a secret door that leads to hidden rooms. Despite all the creativity that has gone into the house, Benson is already moving on – on a trip with her fiancé Brandon Davis. Your house is now for sale. But it remains a shining example of a skillful Hollywood glamor makeover.
