Transfers – Tchouaméni record, Barça spendthrift, Liga in decline, City good seller: update on the transfer window

Where is the transfer market? Considered and even described as closed by many football players – presidents, sporting directors, agents among others – it is nevertheless quite active, especially in the Premier League. Here is what to make a first assessment of the summer transfer window 2022.

We have blocked the numbers to Sunday July 17th. It is very likely that transfers will modify the elements given in this paper, but this hierarchy will remain difficult to change. We have classified the championships according to their investments in purchases.

We took as a source, the Transfermarkt site which compiles the transfer balances. The figures nevertheless remain variable, except for clubs listed on the stock exchange which indicate the actual amounts of the transfers. The idea here remains to identify a trend.

Very little. Taken by the throat, the Spanish clubs are mainly doing it this summer. Free arrivals, loans, secondary markets: everyone manages as best they can. At present, 14 clubs cannot register their recruits with La Liga because of the latter’s drastic Financial Fair Play.

The total expenditure is around 280 million euros thanks to the transfer of Robert Lewandowski whose pre-agreement was announced on Saturday by the Catalan club. Of this sum, 180 come from Barça and Real Madrid alone. Without the purchase of RL9, La Liga would be last in our ranking behind Ligue 1.

Who spent the most?

Barca. If he recorded so-called free arrivals with Franck Kessié and Andreas Christensen (with signing bonuses paid), the Catalan club also reinvested part of the money from “Las Palancas” in the transfer window.
