From a Swiss point of view, “Deadline Day” ended with a bang! On Thursday evening it leaked out that Nati star Denis Zakaria (25) was loaned from Juventus to Chelsea. The Premier League club should then be able to take over the midfielder for a fee of the equivalent of CHF 34 million.

Videos appeared that evening showing Zakaria on her way to the obligatory medical check-up. He completed this in Turin on the grounds of Noch-Club Juventus. The 25-year-old only moved from Gladbach to Italy in January. He has featured in two out of four Serie A games so far this season. In addition to Chelsea, Bayer Leverkusen and AS Monaco are said to have tried to get the Swiss loanee, but Zakaria is said to have rejected both offers.

The Genevan launched his professional career at his hometown club Servette before moving on to YB in 2015. Two years later I went from Bern to Gladbach. Zakaria made 146 appearances for Borussia and has made 15 appearances for Juventus this year. The 40-time national player has also been an integral part of the national team since 2016.
