Let’s go ! The start was given for the Ultim, Ocean Fifty and Class40 which are participating in the 16th edition of the Transat Jacques-Vabre, Sunday October 29 shortly following 1 p.m., off the coast of Le Havre (Seine-Maritime). The IMOCAs remained at the dock, because the organization of the race was disrupted by difficult weather conditions expected in the middle of the week in the Atlantic. “A break in this system, with a boat that would no longer be maneuverable… There is no possible escape”, explained Francis Le Goff, race director. The Ocean Fifty and the Class40 will have to make a stopover. The 55 boats entered in these classes will have to stop at Lorient (Morbihan) at the start of the week for shelter, before leaving once the storm has passed. “The start of this second stage will be given as a fleet and the ranking established on arrival in Martinique is the sum of the times of the two stages”explained Francis Le Goff, race director.

Departure postponed for the Imoca. “We did not have the capacity to offer this format with a stopover in the Imoca class for reasons of space in the port” from Lorient, said Francis Le Goff. The departure for these boats has therefore been postponed to a later date, which has not yet been communicated by the organizers.

The Ultims will continue their race without interruption. The five maxi-trimarans planned for the starting line, faster than the rest of the fleet, are able to escape the Channel and the Bay of Biscay before the storm hits the area from Wednesday, explained the organizers.
