The Flemish administration has issued the permit requested as part of the tram line project which will connect Zaventem national airport to the capital, Flemish Minister of the Environment Zuhal Demir (N-VA) announced on Friday.
Track laying work is expected to begin by the end of 2025 or early 2026.
The tram line will be developed as an extension of the current STIB line 62 which has its terminus at the Eurocontrol stop. It will therefore connect Brussels, to NATO headquarters in Evere, and to Zaventem airport.
With the new line, a journey from Brussels-North to Zaventem will take around 30 minutes over a distance of 12 kilometers of which 4 kilometers remain to be developed.

Compared to previous programs, the current schedule has been slightly modified. Previously, work was expected to begin in early 2024, but it may not begin until late 2025 or early 2026.
