A sad start to the year for the emblematic Tram de Boitsfort chip shop, which has been present at Place Antoine Gilson for a decade.
We recently mentioned that the vehicle serving as a food truck was the subject of violent vandalism on the night of December 31. “Several windows are broken. Firecrackers were probably thrown inside the vehicle: there were traces of burns, soot on the ceiling, the baffles are broken, the fridge too…”, an employee explains to us.

A short week later, windows are still cracked, wooden plates replace the missing windows, traces of burns are still visible… But after several days of cleaning and running-in, the chip shop, known for its burgers, has officially reopened its doors this Saturday. “Here we go again,” smiles manager Bertrand Balasi at the start of the weekend.
A long repair lies ahead
As soon as the vandalism was announced, comments of support multiplied on social networks. “We thank people for their support.” A glass of mulled wine was also offered on this reopening day.
Tramming the 95 is a no-no in Watermael-Boitsfort if it creates a connection: “the tram must go to Place Wiener, or we prefer to keep the bus”
However, it will take time to erase all the stigma of wrongdoing. “This type of tram window is very difficult to find. We will repair it, but we don’t know the deadlines,” sighs the manager. Contacts will be made with the Stib, “with whom contacts are very good”.
In the meantime, the investigation continues, we are told. The cameras present inside the vehicle were requisitioned by the police for analysis. According to the first information circulating, the misdeeds were committed by teenagers, “apparently very young”.
After this new burglary, the tram manager hopes to see the situation change. “This is the 6th time in 10 years that we have been robbed. We hope that there will be more security on the square.”
