Tram Construction Site Delays: Updates and Impact on Mobility in the Walloon Region

We cannot say that the company in charge of the tram work is not doing its part. “It’s normal. There are compensations at stake and each week that passes, with delays, they lose money“, schematizes Daniel Wathelet, spokesperson for the Tram.
Thus, we were able to observe workers working on the Place des Déportés this Sunday and, yesterday evening, eight workers were still active there at 11:50 p.m.

For three or four weeks, the workers have been working in two breaks, between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. And sometimes on Sunday, therefore. Night work, which is also carried out so as not to block daytime traffic on major roads, is mentioned on the site. www.letram.be
For example, this Thursday, the installation of the LAC posts on Quai Saint-Léonard, near Place des Déportés, will be carried out at night between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.

As a reminder, the Walloon Region had agreed to pay an additional 79 million euros to the “builder” of the tram, on the condition that the new timetable is respected. By November 30, the impactful works in the center had to be officially completed, at least those that hinder mobility. Even though the construction site has made rapid progress, delays remain in certain places.
The situation will, it is said, be assessed next week.
