This Tuesday, July 23, the German Cooperation, together with Intecap and the Guatemalan Chamber offered a press conference to provide details of the training program, its achievements and future steps. Susanne Haus indicated that the project was financed by German CooperationThe financial resources were requested through Sequa (the implementing organisation for the BMZ cooperation programmes) and were carried out through the Technical Institute for Training and Productivity (Intecap). Haus expressed his gratitude for the opportunity for collaboration between the two countries: “We need skilled trades and young people who believe in innovation and apply it in these areas.”

Under the project 17 trainers have been trained so far at the EFI (Intecap Instructor Training School) to acquire the didactic and methodological skills to complete their preparation.. The German Cooperation trained all trainers technically based on the German methodology of dual vocational training. This was done in Guatemala as well as at the facilities of the Frankfurt Chamber in Germany.

During these five years, the trainers replicated what they learned and certified more than 500 bricklayers in construction subjects and another 300 in gray work subjects.

Jose Fernando Orellana, Executive Director of the Guatemalan Chamber of Construction (CGC), highlighted that “The training modules not only provided students with advanced technical training but also provided them with a certified certificate, which significantly increases their opportunities and competitiveness in the job market.”

Volker Dietz, project manager of “ConstruYO” He stressed thatalso, A mobile application will be launched that will serve as a job board and hiring of certified labor and qualified for construction work. The application is expected to be available between September-October.

On the other hand, he commented that at the end of This year, funding from the German government ends and the project will be managed by the CGC and Intecap: “We hope that in the near future we will support this wonderful country, Guatemala, with other new educational projects with the aim of improving the way of life of many Guatemalans,” Dietz concluded.

Rachel Anleuin charge of the Intecap Villa Nueva Construction workshop, He is one of the trainers who traveled to Europe to train and he commented that one of the techniques that amazed him and that they are replicating is the recycling of construction materials: “We managed to tropicalize some materials and tools that they use in Germany since it is technology that we do not yet have in Guatemala.”

Where can you study the masonry course?

During the years of the project Three training centers were adapted to teach the course (two more centers are about to be built, Chimaltenango and Coatepeque):

  • 1. Intecap Periférico (Z. 7 capital city)
  • 2. Intecap of Villa Nueva
  • 3. Intecap of Huehuetenango (with support from World Vision)

The requirements to register are: be 18 years of age or older, have a valid DPI and a primary level diploma. It is not necessary to have previous experience, although if you have it you can take a placement test to register for the module that best suits your level.

Los six training modules and certifications were developed in the following areas:

  1. Raising of masonry walls made of block and brick
  2. Assembly of wooden and metal formwork
  3. Manufacturing of reinforced steel concrete structures
  4. Plastering and finishing applications and soon also
  5. Installation of plumbing networks
  6. Scaffolding assembly and disassembly

Each training phase lasts 80 hours. and has its Intecap certification endorsed by the Guatemalan Chamber of Construction.
