At least Two people died and nine were injured in a violent train collision early Thursday morning in the commune of San Bernardo, at the height of Eliodoro Yáñez with President Jorge Alessandri Rodríguez.

The emergency was led by an EFE train without passengers – which was carrying out a speed test – and a Fepasa freight train carrying copperthose who, for reasons that are being investigated, collided head-on on the main railway linebetween the Maipo Bridge and Nos.

The passenger train was heading south and the freight train was heading north, the police said.

According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, The fatal victims of the freight train were 43 and 58 years oldLikewise, by instruction of the Western Flagrancy Prosecutor’s Office, specialized personnel from SIAT, Labocar and OS-9 were in charge of the investigations.

The driver of the State Railways Company (EFE) test train involved in the accident and the person in charge of controlling the tracks, an employee of the same company, were arrested. Among the test train’s crew members were Chinese executives.

According to the Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office of the West, both people will be detained at the San Bernardo Court of Guarantee, where they will be charged with the misdemeanor of homicide and serious injuries.
