Train Collision in Limburg: Winter Safety Tips for Level Crossings

A collision occurred late Sunday in Limburg between a motorist and a train without passengers, near the Velm level crossing (Saint-Truiden). No one was injured, but train traffic was interrupted between Genk and Landen.

In these winter conditions, the railway network manager, Infrabel, calls on all people traveling by car to exercise great caution when arriving near a level crossing.

As the duration of the traffic interruption is unknown, SNCB has put replacement buses into service.

The accident occurred around 6:15 p.m. The driver had time to get out of his vehicle before it was hit by a train without passengers which linked Louvain to Hasselt.
