For several years, and even more under the effect of the pandemic, everywhere in the world, the bicycle has made a comeback among the preferred means of transport of citizens. This phenomenon is very present in France, especially in several large cities, first and foremost Paris. It must be said that in France, many communities are making sure to put this mode of transport back at the center of their strategies, by investing as they have never done before, and by deploying facilities and services. However, despite significant progress, a dynamic is still slow to start: intermodality between the bike and the train. It must be said that for the world of rail and that of cycling to meet, there are many steps to take, a strategy to define, a method to choose, actors to involve. It’s a shame, because the coupling between these two modes of travel is surely one of the most effective solutions for covering all kinds of distances in a truly competitive way with the car. The train is able to offer quick solutions for medium and long distances. The bicycle meanwhile allows you to cover the first and last kilometer, especially when it is electric. Several countries have understood this potential very well and have been developing a real strategy for several years now to develop this duo. Among them, the very specific case of the Netherlands will be detailed in this article.
