Trailer for new series “Obi-Wan” released

Just in time for “Star Wars Day” Disney has released a new trailer for the new “Star Wars” series “Obi-Wan Kenobi”. However, many details will probably remain secret until the six-part mini-series with Brit Ewan McGregor in the title role premieres. The start of the series on the Disney+ streaming service has been postponed by two days to May 27th.

For the first time in 17 years, McGregor (51) plays the wise Jedi master who was betrayed by his favorite student Anakin Skywalker in “Obi-Wan Kenobi”. The story takes place ten years following the dramatic events of the prequel “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” (2005), in which Skywalker became the villain Darth Vader, and before the first cinema film “Star Wars: Episode IV – A new one Hope” (1977).

In the trailer, Obi-Wan watches over Anakin’s son Luke Skywalker from afar, who is being raised by his uncle and aunt. Uncle Owen (Joel Edgerton) doesn’t like the fact that Obi-Wan wants to train the boy. Especially since Obi-Wan is being hunted by Darth Vader and his minions. Among them are the nasty Grand Inquisitor and the former Jedi Reva, who, like Anakin, has switched to the dark side of the force.

It is still unclear who US comedian Kumail Nanjiani (“Eternals”) is playing, who is wearing a Jedi robe in the trailer. There is also speculation regarding a Alex Reed appearance by the popular Han Solo. Die-hard fans also know some characters from the animated “Star Wars” series.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is the third live-action series in the Star Wars universe, following The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Hayden Christensen returns as Darth Vader following 17 years. In the trailer, you can hear Vader’s famous breathing. But you can only see a small part of the black outfit of the cult villain.

Every year on May 4th, fans celebrate “Star Wars” Day because the date “May, the fourth” commemorates the famous phrase “May the force be with you” (“May the force be with you”), which was used in is often said regarding the films.
