A teenager dies and another is seriously injured for “surfing” on the subway. The event occurred inside the tunnels on Thursday followingnoon.
Police officers responding to the scene near the Bushwick Avenue and Aberdeen Street station found the two teenagers under the train with “serious trauma to their bodies”.
The teens boarded the train at the Bushwick station and climbed on top of the train at the Broadway Junction stop, said Michael Kemper, New York Police Chief of Transit.
inside the tunnels
“While you’re on top of the train between Broadway Junction and this stop, the train is going from the surface into a tunnel,” Kemper said. “It was when the train entered the tunnel that we believe they made contact, throwing them off the top of the train,” the official added.
Mayor Eric Adams was on hand to reiterate the call to stop the absurd idea that you can “surf” a moving train.
“Surfing in the subway kills. We need our social media companies to join us in stopping this deadly practice,” Adams stated.
