Witnesses reported that a man in the drive-thru exited his car and shot a person in the car in front of him before turning the gun on himself.
The two individuals fatally shot in an apparent murder-suicide at a Taco Bell drive-thru in Stow have been identified. The Summit County Medical Examiner confirmed that Jason Williams, 53, was the shooter who then turned the gun on himself, killing 25-year-old Megan Keleman.
Keleman succumbed to gunshot wounds to the neck, while Williams died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds to the head. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, which occurred around 7:30 p.m. at the Taco Bell located at 993 Graham Road, near the Cuyahoga Falls border.
What Led to the Taco Bell Shooting?
During a press conference, Stow Police Chief Jeffrey Film provided further details about the tragic incident. Witnesses recounted that Williams began honking his horn at Keleman when she entered the drive-thru line ahead of him. Following this, he collided with the rear of her vehicle.
Keleman requested that a Taco Bell employee call the police after her car was struck. Shortly thereafter, police received multiple emergency calls reporting that Williams had exited his vehicle, shot Keleman, and subsequently shot himself.
One caller described the scene, stating, “A man just shot somebody and shot himself in the head. I’m sorry, I’m really shaken up; I saw him shoot himself in the head.”
As of now, a motive for the shooting remains unclear, and no known relationship between the two individuals has been established. Chief Film expressed the community’s grief, stating, “This is a true tragedy. Not only did the Keleman family lose a daughter, but the community lost one of our daughters. We may never know why this happened.”
A dog was also present in Keleman’s vehicle during the incident. Fortunately, the dog was unharmed and has since been returned to Keleman’s family by Rubber City Rescue.
Who Were Williams and Keleman?
According to social media profiles, Keleman was a recent graduate of Cleveland State University, having earned her master’s degree in business administration in May. She also held a bachelor’s degree in finance and financial management services.
On her LinkedIn page, Keleman described herself as a “child advocate and bookkeeper.” She was employed at Shelter Care Inc., a residential treatment program for children experiencing emotional or behavioral challenges.
Keleman’s family released a statement through the Stow police, expressing their profound grief over the loss of their daughter and requesting privacy during this difficult time.
