The case had shaken Belgium a few days ago. The body of Raul, a nine-year-old child, was found on April 14. His story is chilling. Arrived illegally on Belgian territory, Raul lived with his mother and stepfather in Ghent. The boy was regularly beaten by his stepfather, who beat him with his belt, punched him or sprayed him with ice cold or hot water.
But Raul did not survive his stepfather’s mistreatment on January 31, so he decided to dispose of his body following hiding it under his bed. The boy’s parents will therefore weigh down a sports bag and throw Raul’s body in a lake near Ghent.
He was afraid of his mother
“Don’t send me back to Belgium, my mother will kill me,” Raul pleaded the last time he visited his grandmother in Romania.
The latter confided in Romanian television and gave a testimony that casts doubt on the real person responsible for these fatal abuses. Indeed, although Nicu, Raul’s stepfather, is considered the main suspect, the boy’s grandmother explains that his mother abused him: “I saw that Raul had bruises. He did not want to return to Belgium, for fear that his mother would kill him.”
Raul’s uncle, Marius Micu, confirmed the boy’s fear of returning to Belgium. “My mother immediately approached Yoana regarding it, explains Marius Micu in the columns of the Nieuwsblad. Why are you hitting Raul? Why are you hurting her? If you can’t take care of the children, leave them to me, suggested my mother”. But Yoana, Raul’s mother, does not listen to her mother. “She left headlong with the children for Belgium. My mother didn’t have a chance to stop them. Therefollowing, they called regularly. Suddenly it was without Raul. My sister always had an excuse, until it was clear my nephew was dead”.
On the Romanian airwaves, Raul’s grandmother explains how her granddaughter confessed the crime to her: “Raul’s sister told me that their mother hit her younger brother’s head with a thermos. According to the girl, his head was broken off and he died shortly followingwards.”
”My mother is still devastated, explains Raul’s uncle. She cries all day and can’t sleep at night.”
