A camera captured the entire moment. The subjects have not been located.
A military police officer and his 19-year-old daughter died early this Saturday in a shootout with alleged criminals in front of a pharmacy north of the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo, local media reported.
According to the images from the surveillance cameras, Corporal Anderson de Oliveira Valentim was off duty inside his car with his daughter, waiting for his wife, who was at the pharmacy.
At that moment, three men with their faces covered approached the car.
The police officer, upon seeing that the subjects were wearing sweatshirts and a surgical mask, pointed his gun from inside the car, in an apparent warning sign. One of the men gave a thumbs-up gesture and walked in front of the vehicle with two other companions, who had their arms raised.
Exchange of fire
One of them, who was wearing a black sweatshirt, indicated that he was going to enter the pharmacy, which had the door closed. However, he ended up turning to follow the other two, who were walking away from the place.
Valentim then exited the vehicle pointing his gun and headed toward the back of the car. Upon noticing the movement, the individual also took out a revolver and both opened fire at the same time.
One of the bullets hit the corporal and another hit his daughter, who was still inside the car. The victims called for help, but the emergency services, who arrived later, might do nothing for her life.
The suspects left the scene in another vehicle. The authorities later found the car and found no weapons or signs that the criminals were injured.
So far no arrests have been made.
