Last Friday night, a tragic event occurred at a soda fountain in Estación Central, near the South Terminal, where a shooting ended with the death of a man and two wounded Carabineros officers.

The incident occurred following the owner of the premises asked the Carabineros for assistance due to the presence of a man who was intoxicated and carrying a firearm. After this, a plainclothes officer who was investigating robberies in the area arrived at the scene.

Upon arriving at the scene, a violent incident began that generated an exchange of shots between the soldier and the police officers. This was confirmed by General Marcela González, Head of the Carabineros Metropolitan Zone.

“This person throws the Carabineros official to the ground, and points it at his temple (…) Then he realizes that this non-commissioned officer arrives in cooperation, raises the weapon and shoots the non-commissioned officer, who is wounded at this minute on his foot,” he said.

Subsequently, it was reported that the soldier died at the scene, while the two police officers were transported with injuries of varying severity to healthcare centers, where they were successfully treated.

New images revealed

Despite this, during this day, new images of the event were revealed, which will serve as compelling evidence to demonstrate that the victim identified as Cristián Eduardo Díaz Mansilla, 34 years old, did not threaten the clients with the weapon.
