DENVER, Colorado – The family of a teenager who tragically lost his life in a shooting outside a Dillard’s store in Aurora’s Town Center in late March has called on the public for answers regarding the teen’s death.

According to the police, there was an argument between the group of friends of 13-year-old Phoenix Day and another group of people inside the mall before the tragic event. However, shortly following leaving the location, Phoenix was shot twice by an unknown person.

The Aurora Police Department (APD) held a press conference on Friday, July 7 at 10:00 am in the main conference room at APD headquarters to discuss the shooting.

Phoenix’s mother, Tabatha, will be in attendance and plans to speak publicly regarding her son. APD Detective Nicholas Lesnansky will discuss the incident and update the community on work on the case. He will also hear from the Chief of the Investigations Division, Mark Hildebrand.

Investigative detectives have reviewed more than 100 hours of video footage, analyzed social media posts and executed search warrants. However, they need more information in order to make an arrest.

The Aurora Police Department has released photos of several people who they want to identify and speak with regarding what happened on March 25. They have not yet been able to identify or interview everyone involved in the altercation before Phoenix’s death.

The information reward, through Metro Denver Crime Stoppers, has been increased to a maximum of $4,000.

Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867 or visit metrodenvercrimestoppers.com. Informants may remain anonymous.
