A Moroccan seasonal worker dies in a road accident
The tragedy occurred Monday morning in Andalusia, when a bus carrying Moroccan seasonal workers overturned.

A bus carrying Moroccan seasonal workers overturned in southern Spain on Monday, emergency services said. The accident happened just before sunrise on a road regarding 50 kilometers from Huelva, a town in Andalusia, they said.
“The number of people injured when the bus overturned has risen to 39,” the emergency services said on the regional government’s website, noting that the vehicle was carrying Moroccan seasonal workers.
Thousands of seasonal workers
“One woman died, three other people were very seriously injured, 14 suffered moderately serious injuries and 22 were slightly injured,” including the bus driver, they added. We did not know for the moment what had caused this tragedy, in a region known for its powerful agri-food industry, the Andalusian region being the leading European exporter of fruit and vegetables.
In remarks ahead of the May Day parades, Spanish Labor Minister Yolanda Diaz offered her “condolences and deepest sympathy to the workers who were victims of this very serious accident”.
Spain traditionally relies on thousands of foreign seasonal workers for fruit picking. The province of Huelva alone produces the majority – 300,000 tonnes – of strawberries in Spain.
