In his report made public Friday, Me Donald Nicole explains that young Jessy-Jay Maheux had the habit of driving his vehicle at speeds above the permitted limit and that he rarely wore his seat belt.

According to a friend of the victim who was in his presence a few minutes before the accident, the young man had been drinking and was in no condition to drive his vehicle.

A container of cannabis as well as a consumption accessory were also found in the vehicle after it swerved.

No sign of braking

The accident occurred shortly after 3 a.m. on President Kennedy Road. The young Beauceron was then traveling in a northbound direction when he continued his trajectory in a straight line arriving at a curve.

“The vehicle then crossed the oncoming lane, before going down into the ditch and colliding head-on with the end of a culvert of a private entrance. The violent impact then threw the vehicle into the air which ended its journey, overturned on the passenger side,” we can read in the said report.

According to the examination of the scene carried out by the police, no traces of braking or skidding were noted on the roadway. The extent of the damage to the front of the vehicle also suggests that Jessy-Jay Maheux was traveling at high speed.

However, the general condition of the vehicle, cell phone use, road signs, road infrastructure and weather conditions would not be in question.

Multiple head injuries

“All the evidence collected shows that Mr. Maheux died of head trauma, resulting from a violent exit from the road,” it is mentioned in the coroner’s report.

It is also specified that the young man from Sainte-Hénédine had severe craniocerebral trauma with skull fractures following the accident.

The latter also reportedly suffered a fracture to the base of the skull as well as another to the right collarbone.
