The entity of Leuze-en-Hainaut was hit by a new road tragedy, two days following the death of a motorist at the bottom of the Festu bridge in Pipaix. On this All Saints’ Day, it is on the same axis (Editor’s note: the Nationale 7) linking Tournai to Ath that a 62-year-old lady, originally from the Athoise region, lost her life at the wheel of her vehicle. According to our sources, they are Madame Corinne Lebrun.
It was around 11 p.m. when the fatal collision occurred with a forage harvester, near the infamous 4 Pavés intersection in Chapelle-à-Wattines.

According to circumstances that the investigation will have to determine, the victim, who came from Leuze and was heading towards Ath, collided head-on with the agricultural machine arriving from the village of Chapelle-à-Oie via rue de la Galterie. The lady was alone in her vehicle, a Citroën C1. The uneven and extremely violent impact left no chance for the driver, who died instantly. The farmer was not injured.
The Picardy Wallonia rescue zone mobilized an extrication truck, a marking and command vehicle from the Leuze barracks as well as an ambulance from the Rebaix station. During the intervention, led by Captain Éric Stasik, traffic was partially cut off on the Brussels roadway, particularly from the Leuze prison roundregarding.
The Mons-Tournai Public Prosecutor’s Office has been informed of the facts but it is unknown, at the time of writing these lines, whether an expert has been called to go to the scene of the tragic accident.
To the family and loved ones of the victim, our newspaper sends its most sincere condolences.
