A motorcyclist who was on vacation on the island was killed this morning while traveling along kilometer 6.9 of the PR-642 highway, in the La Villamil sector in Florida.
According to the preliminary investigation, it was 2:46 am today, Monday, when Natanael González López, 22, was traveling with another motorcyclist through the place, which is a remote one, after leaving the patron saint festivities of Barceloneta and In the distance they observed some lanterns in the middle of the road.
The gunmen opened fire on the young man using an AR-15 rifle and killed him on the spot, when they passed through that section.
González López, who has no criminal record and worked in a factory in the city of Arlington, Georgia, had a ticket to return to the United States today, explained the director of the Arecibo Criminal Investigation Corps (CIC), Lieutenant Carlos Vélez.
“Right now we don’t have a cell phone, it could be that at that moment they were preparing to rob or commit a ‘carjacking’ or that they were following them for some unknown reason, that’s why we are looking for security cameras on that route before arriving at that lonely area”, explained Lieutenant Vélez.
It is alleged that the criminals fled in their gray Honda CRF-450 motorbike and with the license plate 265525M.
The deceased was staying at the home of relatives in the town of Florida.
During today, interviews with relatives and relatives will continue in search of clues as to what could have happened.
Agent Carlos Cruz Román, attached to the Homicide Division of the Criminal Investigation Corps (CIC) in the Arecibo area, together with prosecutor Ilia Reichard Morán, carried out the investigation at the scene.
