The young Cuban Talía Labañido Figueredo, just 21 years old, was allegedly murdered by her ex-partner, Yendri Rodríguez, in Nuevitas, Camagüey.
A report from the independent media “La Hora de Cuba” indicated that the deceased was a native of the “Guáimaro” municipality and a month ago he had separated from Yendri, who was already arrested by the authorities.
Neighbors of Talía’s family indicated that “the young woman is currently being held in her home, on Avenida de los Mártires, between C. Peña and Juan Canino, in Guáimaro.”
“Another source revealed to our media, under anonymity, that Yendri, a native of Sibanicú, arrived yesterday around 3:00 pm at Talía’s grandparents’ house in Guáimaro, looking for her. Not finding her and finding out through other means that he was in Nuevitas, he arrived at that coastal municipality around 7:00 p.m. m”, noted the media.
Meanwhile, he said that “the murder occurred following that hour, since the body was found by a friend – a resident of the house in Nuevitas where Talía was – at night and with 12 stab wounds. The alleged murderer fled and was caught by the police on the outskirts of the Nuevite municipality.”
According to the same source, the motive for the murder was jealousy, since Talía was planning to go to the beach these days.
The young woman is survived by “a girl, who is now an orphan as a result of sexist violence.”
This is the second recorded this year in the province of Camagüey, following the murder of Diana Rosa Cervantes Mejías, on January 2.
