This Saturday, Civil Guard agents arrested a 44-year-old man of Guatemalan origin, accused of murdering his roommate, a 29-year-old Argentine man.
The tragic event occurred around 2:28 a.m. in a house located on Francia street, in the S’Arracó neighborhood, belonging to the municipality of Andratx, in Mallorca.
The victim was identified as Fernando Agustín Ruiz and the alleged perpetrator of the crime as Byron Estuardo JM
According to sources close to the case, the incident was triggered by a dispute between the two men, during which the Guatemalan man stabbed the young Argentine in the chest using a kitchen knife. The suspect was detained, charged with the crime of homicide, the Europa Press agency reported.
While the investigation progresses, the Civil Guard carries out the rigorous tests to try to clarify what happened.
According to information from the Diario de Mallorca, the victim received assistance from local police officers following 112 alerted regarding a person injured with a stab wound to the chest. Immediately, emergency units were mobilized to the place and made efforts to revive the young man, who was lying on the sidewalk in the middle of a pool of blood.
The researchers’ first hypotheses suggest that the men were under the influence of alcohol during the violent dispute in the kitchen of the home they shared. Ruiz went out into the street looking for help and knocked on the door of a house that was approximately twenty meters away, but no one responded, the aforementioned outlet added.
The body of the Argentine was transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine, pending the completion of an autopsy.
After the crime, the Andratx City Council published a statement in which it regretted the death of the young man. “Thanks to the great emergency device that was in place in the municipality due to the celebration of the Patron Saint Festivities, agents of the Andratx Local Police, Civil Guard and health workers have immediately gone to the scene where unfortunately they have not been able to save the victim due to the magnitude of his injuries,” they said.
“The rapid action of the Local Police and Civil Guard have made it possible to find the alleged perpetrator of the events inside the home and have proceeded to arrest him. We send our most sincere condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased,” the letter concludes.
