Tragic Loss in Sudan: Al-Merrikh Football Club Mourns Reserve Team Player Ahmed Abdel Salam

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The player of the reserve team in the Sudanese club Al-Merrikh, Ahmed Abdel Salam, died of a “projected feather”, following the ongoing confrontations in the country, the club announced on its Facebook page.

Al-Merreikh club said: “With great sadness and sorrow, the president of Al-Merreikh club, members of the board of directors, the Sunni stages sector, and the club’s fans mourn the player of the reserve team, Ahmed Abdel Salam, the “Tunisian”, who answered the call of his Lord, on Friday, following he was injured by a projectile feather.

And the club continued: “We send our deepest condolences to his young family and the sports family, asking the Lord Almighty to accept him with the two friends and martyrs and inspire his family with patience and good condolences. We belong to God and to Him we shall return.”

Al-Merreikh club had previously announced the arrival of its foreign players and technical staff, led by Brazilian coach Heron Ricardo, to Aswan, Egypt, following the evacuation process on their way back to their country, due to the outbreak of clashes in Sudan.

Sports activity in the country has stopped due to the political and security events that Sudan has been witnessing since last April.
