He allegedly committed the unspeakable this Tuesday. According to our information, a man allegedly beat his stepdaughter, who was only two years old, in a house located in the small village of Meeffe, in the commune of Wasseiges (in the province of Liège).
It was therefore this Tuesday, in the middle of the day, that the emergency services were called to intervene in this small social house occupied by a couple and the young woman’s child. The reason ? The worrying state of health of the two-year-old girl, who needed to receive care as quickly as possible. And this, after clearly having been the victim of beatings.
In addition to the ambulance from the local emergency area, the Bra-sur-Lienne medical helicopter was required on site, with an emergency doctor and nurse on board.
The situation being critical, the child was taken into care and airlifted to a hospital in Liège, where she died the next day, during the evening, as a result of her injuries.
A neighborhood survey the next day
The judicial machine then got into motion. With the opening of an investigation. The magistrate on duty at the Liège public prosecutor’s office was informed of the tragedy and put the file under investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the death.
A neighborhood investigation was carried out by police officers from the West Hesbaye zone, in the street where the little victim’s family lives. In the neighborhood, there is total incomprehension. Undoubtedly to preserve the secrecy of the investigation and the initial investigative duties that were requested. We insist to the spokesperson for the prosecution. In vain. At most Catherine Collignon “confirms the death and that an investigating judge is seized given the suspicious nature of the latter”. The stepfather sought by investigators?
The fact remains that the victim’s lifeless body was taken care of by a funeral director who ensured its transfer, at the request of the judicial authorities, to the forensic medicine center on rue Dos Fanchon, in Liège. An autopsy was carried out there this Thursday to determine the cause of death.
Still according to our information, suspicion falls on the new companion of the child’s mother. Although he remains presumed innocent throughout the investigation, he would be sought by investigators.
The hearing of the mother’s partner will therefore be decisive for the outcome of the investigation, as will the results of the autopsy of the little girl’s body.
