An investigation opened for “voluntary homicide”
Before the kick-off at Beaujoire, a Nantes supporter was fatally injured during an altercation, in circumstances that are still unclear, announced the prosecution, which opened an investigation for “intentional homicide”. “Great pain this evening in Nantes, after the death of a Canaries supporter, killed while going to the match. All my thoughts for his family, his loved ones, his comrades in the stands”, reacted on X the minister of Sports Amélie Oudéa-Castéra.
“The investigation opened by the public prosecutor must now specify the exact circumstances of the facts,” she added. In a press release published overnight, the FCN expressed its “pain” and presented “its most sincere condolences” to the loved ones of the deceased fan.
“Shortly before 8 p.m., several VTC vehicles transporting Nice supporters were attacked by supporters of FC Nantes” while they were going to La Beaujoire, said the public prosecutor of Nantes, Renaud Gaudeul. “During these events, in circumstances which remain to be determined, a 31-year-old man, a supporter of the FCN, collapsed” and “died on the spot”, “despite the rapid intervention of the emergency services”, a he added.
According to AFP, the supporter, a member of the Brigade Loire group, received a stab, probably from one of the VTC drivers attacked.
