A young woman in her twenties died this Saturday, January 6 at around midday following an accident that occurred during an intimate show jumping competition in Flémalle. According to the first information communicated by the Jump’In ride and the Walloon Brussels Equestrian League (LEWB), the rider lost her life following the fall from her horse.
Despite the rapid arrival of emergency services and the presence of supervisory members on site, the young woman did not survive the accident. “Even if this competition was not part of the official season, the supervision and security conditions were met to ensure a smooth running. Despite everything, no one is ever safe from an accident“, specifies the LEWB on Saturday early evening.
The events took place as part of the intimate winter competition organized by the Jump’In ride. “Everything was going very well. The young lady took her second start, her horse stumbled then pedaled in the semolina. She fell with her face towards the sky and the animal fell on her with all its weight. It’s horrible, our hearts go out to the family“, tells the Belga agency regarding the ride, in shock.
People trained in first aid and emergency nurses were present at the time of the incident and did their best to ensure that she might survive, in vain, the ride still reports. “We had official staff there who are used to working in international competitions and it was the first time they had seen this. More or less serious falls, with a broken collarbone or shoulder, happen, but not“, concludes the ride.
The competition, which was to take place throughout the weekend, was stopped out of respect for the bereaved family.
