At least two minors, between 10 and 15 years old, died due to the fire that occurred on the Cordillera de Valparaíso hill, after Firefighters confirmed that they found the bodies inside a house on José Tomás Ramos Street.

The information was confirmed by the commander of the Valparaíso Fire Department, Eugenio Riveros, who told the media that volunteers, upon entering the structure, found the bodies of the victims.

“Within the initial work and the primary search, two bodies of teenagers were found. The fire damage was on the fourth floor. The causes of the fire are being investigated at this time by our department of specialists on the subject and the investigation will be sent to the Prosecutor’s Office in due course,” said the commander.

At least fifteen homes and about five hectares were damaged during an urban-forest fire recorded this Wednesday night in Cerro Cordillera in the commune of Valparaíso.

The Senapred declared a red alert for the commune due to the fire and the Government summoned the national Cogrid to take measures in the face of the emergency, where they indicated that only on Thursday morning will it be possible to have a registry of the damage caused by the fire.

“The damage assessment is not yet complete because, given the schedule, we cannot have a definitive assessment. The approximation we have is that what is being analyzed is that there should be between 15 and 40 affected homes, but we will not be able to be sure of that until we have daylight and a complete review can be done.“, indicated the Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá.

Authorities confirmed that the emergency was contained but that until the closing of this publication they were still fighting the entire fire.

Although it is still a matter of investigation, one of the videos states that the root causes would have been the launching of a flare.
