A fire with dramatic consequences took place last night in the town of Huy. Firefighters were alerted shortly before midnight to a house fire in the city center. They were able to get there quickly. When they arrived, the house was completely engulfed in flames. Flames were coming out of all the windows, from the ground floor to the upper floors. Firefighters then discovered six dead bodies in the blaze, a couple and four children, some of them young.
“The fire last night was extremely violent. We were contacted at exactly 11:52 p.m., for a building fire where there was suspicion of people present inside the building“, tells us Captain Christophe Jadot, from the HEMECO zone. “Upon arrival, the entire front façade was a wall of flames. As we worked and progressed through the building, we found one victim, then two, then three… Finally realizing that there were six victims in this fire, a complete family. A couple and their four children.”

Christophe Jadot tells us that when he arrived on the scene he saw neighbors trying to put out the fire with fire extinguishers. Jordan was among them: “I tried to put out the flames at the window, but it wasn’t enough.“, he explains. “The front facade was a wall of flames. The building was completely on fire.“, remembers the firefighter.
The firefighters tried to enter through the back of the house, but the situation was identical. “At that point, we, as professionals, if there are people inside, we already know what will happen: we won’t be able to save anyone.“, he laments.
Albert, a neighbor, left his house when he noticed that there was no more electricity at his house. That’s when he saw the fire. He knew the neighbors. And he learned this morning of the family’s death. “It’s a famous drama. The mother was extraordinary. She did everything for her children.”
The fire is now under control. The police are still on the scene, as is RESA, the main manager of the electricity and gas distribution networks in the Province of Liège, because this violent fire caused a power cut in the neighborhood.
